Please join us in welcoming our new Pastor
Dr. Chuck Guth and his wife Cheryl.
Chuck Guth was called to First Presbyterian Church in April 2022. His previous experiences include church work in Denver, North Carolina, and the Chicago area; teaching New Testament and theology at a seminary in Canada; and working as a remodeling contractor and, later, as the maintenance supervisor of a retirement community.
Chuck has enjoyed all of these roles at different times in his life, and especially appreciates how his diverse background helps him connect with people from all walks of life. Chuck went to Wheaton College and Denver Seminary, and has a PhD in systematic theology from the University of Aberdeen (in Scotland!). He still gets a kick out of getting to live in Aberdeen “again”!
Chuck is married to Cheryl, his best friend. They have two children, Hilary and C.J. Hilary lives in Vancouver, Canada, where she works on staff at Regent College, a graduate school and seminary. C.J. lives in New Jersey, where he is working on his PhD at Princeton Theological Seminary. His wife, Amelia, works with children on the autism spectrum and their families.
Chuck is passionate about helping people get to know God better. He loves teaching and preaching in a way that makes the Bible accessible, interesting, and relevant to people of all ages—and helping them explore how being a follower of Jesus makes a difference in daily life. He likes connecting with people in and through their life experiences, listening, chatting, and praying with them through good times and bad. In his spare time, he likes to canoe, hike, and garden.
